What you'll pay for the NBN
Category: Technology
Story by "Justin Grey" | July 22, 2011, 9:21 AM
The NBN will be a wholesale-only network. NBNCo, the goverment body set up to construct and operate the network, will strike deals with ISPs and telephone companies, who will then resell access to homes and businesses. ISPs and phone companies will be free to set their prices at whatever level they want.

Internode will also offer a $30 a month priority business support line, and all of the deals listed above include $10 of credit for the bundled voice telephone service.
After announcing these prices, Internode CEO Simon Hackett wrote a lengthy and detailed blog post bemoaning them. The details are pretty arcane, but the gist of it is that the way NBNCo has set up its wholesale deals means it is very hard for his company or other ISPs to sell NBN access for much less than the prices above. Hackett also feels that Telstra retains a big advantage in the market under the NBN's current mode.
