Content Writer, My BusinessCustomer demand is strong and with the festive season upon us, it’s only likely to intensify. It’s that time of year when Australians are looking forward to getting out and enjoying the summer with friends and family – better still, finally having a holiday in a state or territory other than their own.
However, while it’s a welcome move for the country to be opening up, labour shortages have meant many tourism and hospitality businesses across Australia are finding it a challenge to adequately accommodate the customer demand.
From an international perspective, the tourism industry ground to a halt throughout the pandemic. The on-again, off-again lockdowns also had major impacts to hospitality with some businesses forced to offer takeaway / home delivery options only, while others located in CBD areas closed due to lack of foot traffic. Sadly, many workers had little choice but to look for career and employment avenues outside of their industry.
Tourism and hospitality are worth billions to the Australian economy. To help reignite interest for working in these sectors, the federal government is delivering a National Virtual Jobs Fair and you’re invited to participate for free. Any tourism or hospitality business looking to fill jobs can take advantage of the jobs fair on November 25, 2021.
Secure a virtual booth to:
- showcase your job opportunities while profiling your business
- have access to a wide variety of potential talent – job seekers, school leavers, workers displaced by COVID-19 and anyone interested in a career in tourism or hospitality
- use the video chat function to talk with potential employees – a rapid-fire way to discover if candidates are a good fit for your business.
Greg Binskin, Executive Manager of the NSW Tourism Industry Council, believes this initiative can benefit business owners and potential future employees Australia-wide.
“As the visitor economy embarks on the journey of recovery – post-domestic lockdowns, the COVID-19 pandemic, international and state border restrictions – the jobs fair will be a platform for many small, medium and large businesses to look for and connect with a potential staff,” he says.
“Skills and staff shortages are currently the major challenges impacting the hospitality, accommodation, attractions and the food and beverage sector. An initiative such as the jobs fair could provide a platform to connect business with job seekers.”
