AI-ECTA Certificate of Origin
The AI-ECTA Certificate of Origin can be used for claiming preferential tariff treatment under Australia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement.
The Australia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (AI-ECTA) is a bilateral trade agreement between Australia and India. AI-ECTA helps secure access to the fast-growing Indian market of over 1.4 billion people and gives Australian businesses opportunities for trade diversification.
To obtain AI-ECTA Certificate of Origin, you must first register with us as an exporter.

AI-ECTA preferential Rules of Origin (ROO) are agreed criteria used to ensure that only goods that meet the AI-ECTA origin criteria receive AI-ECTA preferential rates.
A good shall be regarded as originating under AI-ECTA if it is:
- wholly obtained or produced in the territory of one or both of the Parties, as provided for in Article 4.4 (Wholly Obtained or Produced Goods); or
- produced entirely in the territory of one or both of the Parties, using non-originating materials, provided the good satisfies all applicable requirements of Article 4.3 (Goods not Wholly Produced or Obtained) or Annex 4B (Product Specific Rules of Origin).

AI-ECTA Certificates of Origin is used to access the reduced tariff/duty rates on goods under Australia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement.
- Step 1: Complete the Exporter Information Form (CO4) to register your business with us.
- Step 2: Send your completed form to exportdocs.cbd@businessaustralia.com
- Step 3: Once your form has been received and accepted, we will send you the AI-ECTA Certificate of Origin template with the corresponding instructions on how to complete the document.
